Workforce Workstream
Our Workforce Dynamics working group is focusing on the sustainability of the veterinary workforce to ensure the professions continue to thrive and meet society’s needs.
This group will gather and analyse data to gauge a greater understanding of the veterinary workforce, including veterinarians, nurses, and technicians. This important information will help us to forecast how the workforce could look in the future, and what factors will affect this. Information will then be communicated to everyone affected including veterinary businesses and professionals.
The workforce group is led by Veterinary Council of New Zealand CEO and Registrar Iain McLachlan, who says the key to good future planning is to ensure we have the right people in place. “Veterinary services are dependent on people, so we’ll be looking at the big picture of what’s happening across the sector with a view to ensuring our workforce is fit to meet current and future needs,” he says.
Membership of this working group is made up of nominees from each organisation/sector involved in Vet Futures Aotearoa. Currently, this includes:
- Te Kaunihera Rata Kararehe o Aotearoa - Veterinary Council of New Zealand.
- Allied veterinary professions education providers.
- Allied Veterinary Professional Regulatory Council.
- Manatū Ahu Matua - Ministry for Primary Industries.
- New Zealand Veterinary Association.
- New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Association.
- Tāwharau Ora – School of Veterinary Science, Massey University.
Other members may be invited from time to time, based on the needs of the group.
